A good change from the regular Toor Dhal. I have used split red lentils/masoor dal which turn yellow when cooked. You can use whole masoor with skin as well.
Ingredients:
Masoor Dal/Split Red Lentils - 1/2 cup
Finely Chopped Onions - 1/2 cup
Tomato - 1 big
Garlic - 4 big cloves
Cumin/Jeera Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Black Pepper Powder - 1/4 tsp
Cayenne Pepper/Red Chilli Powder - 1/4 tsp
Turmeric/Haldi - 1/4 tsp
Cilantro/Coriander Leaves - few sprigs
Salt
Oil
Method:
1. Cook split red lentils in 1 cup water till soft.
2. Heat 1 - 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and crushed garlic cloves. Saute till garlic turns golden brown. Add chopped onions and saute till they turn soft.
3. Now add cooked dal, diced tomatoes, turmeric, black pepper powder, cayenne pepper, salt and chopped cilantro. Cook till tomatoes are cooked and you get the desired consistency.
