Dhokla is well known as a steamed Gujarati breakfast. Today's recipe is of a South Indian Upma made of leftover Gujarati Khaman Dhokla. You might have read my previous post of a similar recipe - Idli Usli or Upma.
Ingredients:
Dhokla - about 4 cups
Shredded Coconut (fresh or frozen) - about 1/2 cup
Shredded Coconut (fresh or frozen) - about 1/2 cup
Green Chilies - 2
Curry Leaves/Kadipata - a sprigCoriander/Cilantro Leaves - few sprigs
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Asafetida/Hing - 1/4 tsp
Salt
How to prepare Upma of leftover Dhokla:
- Pat the curry leaves and green chilies dry. Slit the chilies lengthwise. Finely chop cilantro. Crumble the dhokla pieces with hands to a powder.
- Heat about 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafetida and green chilies. When mustard seeds pop, add dhokla, cilantro and coconut. Sauté at low flame until all the ingredients are mixed well, about 2 - 3 minutes. Add little salt and/or sugar if required. Dhokla has enough salt, you may not need to add more salt.
Colorful and tempting breakfast
